Our guest season wound down last week, just in time for the nights to get a little cooler, (although, quite honestly the last few nights have been quite mild) and the days remain warm; the perfect combination to encourage the flies to crawl out from the walls. It's cluster fly season! We closed a few weeks early this year so that we can start our basement renos, although which, because of a few other events, we haven't yet begun.
Below I have included the thank you note that I have posted on my website; this letter is to thank all of the awesome people who visited us this year.
Our
last guests checked out September 18th, signalling the end
of the 2011 season. Although the farmhouse has been welcoming guests
for over 20 years, this was the first year of operation for my
husband Brett, and myself.
I was raised here at Fairburn, and when
the time was finally right, we moved onto the farm March of this
year, and opened our doors on Good Friday in April.
Whenever
I find a spare second, I reflect back on the past 5 months, and I
cannot think of a way that our first year could have gone any better.
All of our guests were absolutely wonderful and more than once, I
felt as though we were saying goodbye to family and friends when they
checked out at the end of their stay. In our first season, we had two
sets of guests return to the farm within a week or month of their
initial stay- that's a pretty good
indication that they really enjoyed it here! We also welcomed back
guests who had stayed here many years ago, and those who have been
returning back each year.
Besides
those staying at the bed and breakfast, we had around eight tour
groups for lunch and a farm tour, and also had sporadic farm tours
to small groups wanting to meet the water buffalo. Once again, all
awesome people!
We
welcomed our first child at the beginning of July- closing for two
weeks to adjust, and then jumping right back into where things had
left off. Also, as a new location for weddings, we had one wedding
this summer in the middle of August, and after the battle to grow
grass in time for the tent area, everything was beautiful for the day
of, and we look forward to hosting more in the future.
Now
that we are closed for business, Brett and I are going to enjoy the
extra time with our son, renovate the basement to make it a living
space for our family, replace the basement windows on the south wall
of the house, and focus more on farming.
A
huge thank you to everyone who visited us at Fairburn this year; we
look forward to seeing familiar and new faces next year.
We
are back in operation April 6th, 2012.
