This past weekend was the weekend that we had been prepping for since last September when M&M, a truly fantastic couple, from Vancouver stopped by Fairburn to check us out as a possible venue for their wedding on August 13th, 2011.
The months leading up to the weekend were a bit of a roller coaster ride - but a really lame roller coaster because although they existed, the ups and down were pretty anticlimactic- any rough goings were the result of our crummy spring (lots of rain) and summer (cooler than usual).
When the M's first stopped by, my parents' tenant was still at the farm and our wedding dreams were exactly that, dreams. Somehow this couple understood us. They saw flat green grass for a tent where the garden dirt was uneven and, well, dirt. They went away but it wasn't too long after their initial visit that we heard they wanted us as their venue. They picked us.
In November (I think), the bride-to-be brought her mom with her to check out the venue, and it was then that we realized who exactly it was that we had to win over. I mean, this was November! Nothing is pretty in November. I still remember her mother's face and words.
April came and went ... April had been the month that I had given as the month that we would begin our landscaping. It was far too wet.
May came. And went. It was still too wet.
It was here that I had to ask the wedding couple to trust me, to believe in us, to know that by the middle of August we would be able to give them a beautiful venue.
June, we began to prep the land. Dirt was trucked in, the ground was levelled, grass was planted, and the watering began.
We did it.
The grass wasn't quite as thick as I would have liked but it worked, everyone was happy. The wedding was absolutely beautiful. The bride's mom hugged me three times on three different occasions ... I count this past weekend a huge success.
Yay! So happy it all went so well! And looks like the weather was amazing, also.
